The NAFL computer has finnally died. After 20 years helping out owners in league drafts the NAFL computer finnally died of old age. A lot of owners are saying there fateful goodbyes at the next draft. The NAFL computer became world known for making draft picks of owners that were late in making their picks. Owners often took their chances in dealing withe the NAFL computer but he NAFL computer did make interesting projections after the draft. When teams wanted to know how they did.

Due to the conversion of WebCommissioner, the new draft site has a tool to assist all owners in picking players. It even has a ranking and a auto draft feature. This new technology made the NAFL obsolete after 20 years of service.

We will all miss the NAFL computer but the world is an internet world now so the NAFL computer must go alongside the other computers in the recycling bin.

Goodbye my friend….

(NAFL HQ) UPDATE 8/16/2010 – The new owner of the Any Given Sunday announced his keepers. All Keepers are final. Draft page has all keepers.

UPDATE 8/6/2010 - The Gladiators Keepers have changed. Due to sending to the wrong e-mail. Now correct.

UPDATE 8/3/2010 – The Commissioner has made a ruling concerning Brett Favre. Because this retirement/injury occurred between the deadline of keepers and the NAFL draft, this is slightly different than what we do if someone gets injured between the NAFL draft and the start of the season (which is basically, “you’re out of luck, dude”) Also, because I’m not sure that I”m fully convinced that Brett Favre is officially retired, I’m going to make a special ruling, which you can officially call “The Brett Favre rule”

The Knights has to keep Favre as one of his keepers (since he declared him as a keeper). On the day of the draft, if Favre is still retired, then the Knights get an extra pick at the end of the halfway point of the draft. At that point, Favre is dropped from the Knights and he can pick a new player. This also means that Favre is available for anyone else in the league for the 2nd half of the draft.

This pick cannot be traded or used in any other deal – it’s just being used as a compensatory pick for the Favre retirement happening between the Aug. 1st deadline and the NAFL draft. This rule also applies to any keepers that are injured between this time period (between now and Aug. 28) If Favre decides that maybe he isn’t retired, or he signs with another team before the NAFL draft, then the Knights lose this compensatory pick, and they still have his rights.

August 2nd, 2010 - The League announced on August 2nd the 2010 Franchise, Rookie, I/R and Head Coaches that each NAFL Franchise will keep for the 2010 Season.

Some of the keepers like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Chris Johnson, and Adrian Peterson was not a surprise. But some were a surprise. In all six teams kept three franchise players, two teams kept two, one team kept one player, and two teams kept no franchise players, eventhough one of the two did keep two rookies. The Gladiators kept no players and are starting over.

The NAFL also announced a new owner for the Any Given Sunday. Pat Levy is taking over the team effective today. Commissioner Keith Shaw has given him one week to let the league know if he is keeping any players from last year.

The league secretary will update the draft page in full when he gets back from vacation.

This week we are highlighting the Hoggin’s Heroes and owner Ken Hoggins. This week the Hoggins Heroes won their sixth NAFL championship in 20 years setting an NAFL record and becoming the best team in the last 20 years.

The Heroes came into the NAFL in 1990 and was one of the original NAFL franchises. In that first year the Heroes were competitive and strong but did not make it to the championship game losing to the Stallions. The Heores became known for their intense preparation and their time spent in the WarRoom. For the next couple of years the Heroes remained as one of the top teams in the league making the playoffs and some years not making it but they were still one of the teams you had to beat. Competing against the powerhouse Centaurs was tough and the Heroes could not get by them.

In 1996, things changed as the Heroes went on a roll and became the number one team to beat. In 1996 the Heores defeated Felines 40-25 earning their first NAFL Championship. But things were just getting started for the Heroes as they continued their dominence in the 1990’s winning NAFL Championships in 1998 & 1999. In 200, the Heores continued dominating winning again in 2000 and 2001. In the 2001 championship they defeated their arch nemisis the Centaurs 74-25. In 2002 the Centaurs got revenge in the playoffs by knocking the Heores out of the playoffs and winning the 2002 NAFL Championship. In the coming years teh Heores started to struggle and in 2004 won the Toilet Bowl and began to rebuild. Earning playoff appearances again in the late 2000’s the Heroes came back to the NAFL Championship bound to defeat the Knights who in their absence won 5 titles. In 2009 the Heroes set the record straight getting theor sixth NAFL Championship.

In the North American Bowl the Heroes defeated the Any Given Sunday 42-27 to win the 2009 NAFL Championship. This is the Heroes 6th championship in the last 20 years. The win brings the NAFL championship back to the east coast for the first time in six years as well. The win was brought by an exceptional Heroe’s team and performance by RB Chris Johnson who scored 13 pts and 2 TD’s in the win. The Any Given Sunday did keep it close by shutting down the Heroes QB’s who had -1 in points. But the Any Given Sunday could not mount an offensive attack and their QB Donovan McNabb was also shut down. In the end, Chris Johnson was the difference and earned MVP honors for his efforts. After the game an excited Owner, Ken Hoggins stated he was proud of his team since he challenged them early to win the championship and be the all-time winning team. However, Ken also said that starting next week they will go back to the War Room and prepare for next year since that is the reason why they are the best in the NAFL.

In the Toilet Bowl, the Centaurs came to the Toilet Bowl to avenge their season against the Gladiators. Both QB’s figured to be factors in the game, however Tom Brady for the Gladiators and Kurt Warner for the Centaurs did not show up. The game became a defensive struggle and somebody needed to show up. Rookie RB Knowshon Moreno for the Gladiators came out and showed that he is the RB of the future for the Gladiators scoring 2 TD’s and getting the win for the Gladiators who won 42-23. For his efforts Moreno earned Toilet Bowl 09 MVP honors. The Gladiators now have the 1st pick in the 2010 NAFL draft.

In other action, The Master’s of the Universe earned 3rd place honors, the Knights earned 5th place honors, the Golden Eagles earned 7th place honors and the Raiders earned 10th place honors.

Four teams all in the American Division completed to see who was the best. One team was expected to be on top the other one would be the pick to pull off an upset. Who these teams would be was the question. Well, it was answered with the Heroes defeating the Legionaires and the Any Given Sunday defeating the Master’s of the Universe. Now the Any Given Sunday have to live up to their name and hope that this weekend they can pull off the big upset over the Heroes who have dominated the NAFL all year. They might have a chance since both teams have some players who might see limited playing time. It will be another interesting North American Bowl.

In the Toilet Bowl Tournament, the Centaurs defeated the Raiders in a big game of redemption for the Centaurs to move on to the Toilet Bowl. Speaking of redemption, the Gladiators showed up big crushing the Mud Sharks 84-30. Now in the Toilet Bowl the Gladiators and Centaurs two teams at the beginning of the year where it looked like they could be in the championship will face off for the number one pick in next years draft. It will be an interesting game. In other action the Knights and Stallions won their secondary games to move on to the 5th place title game.

In League News, There are no more trades or transactions excepted except for emergency transactions. Teams should not have more then 2 QB’s as well. Individuals on IR qualify for IR franchise player status for next year. Do not forget the Thursday Night Games are happening. Finally, if you need to contact the Commissioner please e-mail him directly with your waiver requests and injury requests.

This week we are highlighting the Martin’s Knights with owner Derrick Martin. Derrick came into the league in 1992 as a good friend of Commissioner Kevin Shaw and quickly became a changing force in the NAFL.

In the Knights initial year in the NAFL, the Knights climbed to the top of the league. In their first season the Knights made the playoffs and showed the other teams that the Knights was a team that was built to win the playoffs. The Knights defeated the Centaurs 42 -9 for their first NAFL championship. Following their championship Derrick showed other owners in the league that he was a wheeler and dealer. Derrick quickly earned the reputation as the “Al Davis” of the NAFL with all his draft day trades. The Knights were not afraid to give up draft pics to get the player they wanted.

Even though the Knights had some down years, they did win the1994 Toilet Bowl and made the playoffs. That Championship feeling failed to earn the Knights the respect they sought. The Knights had a brief experiment in becoming the Red Dogs but knew they were Knights at heart. With the Heroes dominating the landscape the Knights wheeled and dealed to gain an advantage and in 2005 made it back to the NAFL Championship winning again defeating the 81-76 in Overtime in one of the closest games in NAFL history.

Soon after the Knights became the dominant force in the league. Winning 4 straight NAFL Championships from 2005 – 2008. The Knights have been the sole owner of the West Coast Cup and has won 2 division titles. But the crowning moment is winning a record 5 NAFL Championships. The Knights continue to be one of the elite teams in the league and will probably continue throughout the years.
